The Relationship Ratio

Here's a quote from my second unfinished book 'Reduced NLP' from the chapter entitled 'People work like this'

It's a piece on the Relationship Ratio...

The Relationship Ratio

The Relationship Ratio is the ratio between supporting and motivating in a relationship.

In strong human relationships the ratio of support to motivation will be greater than 10 to 1.

Supporting is time expensive and energy efficient. Supporting leads to increases in personal emotional strength.

Motivating is time efficient and energy expensive. Motivating expends personal emotional power.

Relationships can be quickly strengthened by identifying opportunities to improve your Relationship Ratio. Take every opportunity to replace motivation strategies with supporting strategies.

3 things to Pay attention to when you are working on your ratios:

  1. Notice how effective it is to replace a motivating strategy with a supporting strategy
  2. Notice how the ego resists efforts to replace a motivating strategy with a supporting strategy.
  3. Notice how acurate you become at providing empowering support and positive motivation at the right times and in the correct amounts.

And as A. A. Milne's Christopher Robin said to Pooh Bear;
'Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.'
